We were well-represented at the South Carolina Book Festival on May 16-17, 2015. Once again, John Myers, our former director, did a wonderful job orchestrating Turning Pages’ contribution at the Book Festival.
At his booth, each year, John tells people about Turning Pages and how we serve the community, enlisting volunteer tutors. We had six new volunteers on Saturday alone. Each year he also picks a different writer, decorating the booth to reflect that writer’s work and organizing a reader’s theater presentation or a little dramatization of that writer’s work.
This year we celebrated Lewis Carroll with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Children’s Pavilion. Local storyteller Darion McCloud (Mad Hatter), Chris Mathews (March Hare and Doormouse, the hand puppet) and a local student, Mary Devall Koenigs (Alice), had a lot of fun entertaining a very responsive audience.
